    They are made to with stand anything.Never heard of Mil standard.By the way we use lot of electronic equipment in heat of rajasthan and severe cold of siachen. Yes most fail at first attempt they will go back to drawing board and comes back again and again until it passes mil standard tests.

    That is the myth..we can take out targets beyond 1000 meters with .338 .408 and .416.. On second hand our terrain are different and difficult so .50 cal would be weight problem Yes..one Designated marksman is enough for a section of soldiers..but you need sniper specialists with larger caliber...

    Two things 7.62X51mm is DMR and .338,.50 BMG is for long range sniping

    There is no semi-automatic .338 in market....338 rifle is used for long range sniping..and for accuracy at long range bolt action suits better...There is no news about replacing SVD's with .338...Probably SVD will be replaced with another Designated marksmen Rifle.
