It will take Boeing 7 years or in 2026 to fully deliver to RAF all 6 Wedgetails it ordered in March 22, 2019.

If the radar is from Russia then it's going to be the size of a football field. So I agree it will not fit in a B737 body. But note that USN's advanced Hawkeye AWACS has a rotating AESA and PESA radars, covering both low frequency to X bands, combination that fits into the smaller Hawkeye...

We are talking about Boeing Wedgetail AWACS which like P8i is based on B737NG. Buying Wedgetail will offer commonality with IN's P8i as far as airframe, engines, etc. are concerned.

Well a lot of European carriers are also ordeing from Boeing. So what does that proves? Boeing has a mature AWACS line and this is important.

As I have been saying Boeing 737 Wedgetail is a perfect for for IAF AWACS needs since the IN already operates B737-based P-8. Inducting B737-based Wedgetail would simplify logistics.

At the heart of E-2D is the new AN/APY-9 radar that can detect, track and target even the most advanced 5th gen LO fighters. I can only assume that Lockheed, which is the contractor of AN/APY-9 has extensively tested it against 2 of the World's most advanced 5th gen fighters, F-22 and F-35, both...

You don't need to have a huge airframe to house modern radars for awacs. The bigger the airframe the bigger the engine requirement. And the bigger the engine the more fuel and logistics it needs. Just survey commercial airline companies on operational costs between twin aisle and single aisle...

Two of the UK’s five on-order Boeing E-7 Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft will be converted commercial airliners, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/raf-to-get-second-hand-jets-as-part-of-wedgetail-buy-458127/

There is no specialized aircraft designed only to carry AWACS radar perhaps other than E-2 Hawkeye. All the rest are based on modified commercial or military aircraft. There is not enough demand for that kind of specialized aorcraft.

I see no problem. I think all Boeing Wedgetails started life as commercial airliners and then converted by Boeing to Wedgetail configuration. In the case of the RAF Wedgetail orders, it made a deal with Boeing to let a British firm do the conversion in England under Boeing supervision...

It's interesting that the RAF is investing in Wedgetail as its next AWACS. Re size, note that even E-2 Hawkeye can support a rotodome. The latest generation Hawkeye is even considered as the most advanced AWACS platform with its combined low frequency and X-band radars in its rotodome. It has...

B777 is too big for AWACS duties, operational cost will be very expensive. Even biz jets will do for AWACS. But I think B737 is the most ideal platform due to its size and maintainability and lower cost of operation.

That MCAS is used in B787 and it's fine. It appears that Boeing has been sloppy or hurried in installing MCAS into B737MAX.

That's an aberration. B737 has been in service for 50 years. It wouldn't reach that milestone if it were a bad aircraft.

Boeing's Wedgetail is the perfect choice for India since it already operates Poseidon. It can buy those Jet Airways B737s and ask Boeing to convert them to Wedgetails.
