right, i got the information about the MTU MB-838 Ka-501 from the MTU website, although they took down that page for some reason. it showed the power curve and everything. and max torque was listed as 5000Nm@1500rpm.

MB-838 ka-501 has a larger cylinder volume, 39,7 vs 37,4. i guess the ka-501 uses newer material than the older leopard 1 engine. also, original leopard 1 engine is supercharged.

this is correct. torque increases acceleration, HP increases top speed. arjun engine has less HP, and more torque than the MB 873.

Trophy is an Active Protection System. not an autoloader.

back to the point, the weld is present on the loaders side as well, and there's no armour block there, so therefore the claim that the weld on the TC/gunners side is because of an armour block similar to the leopard 2A4 is dubious at best, when clearly the evidence is stacked against it.

a similar weld exists on the left side of the front turret glacis as well, yet from interior pictures, there's no armour going all the way back to the back ledge there. could simply be manufacturing limitations. thick slabs of steel can only be made in certain smaller size, maybe limitations...

nah, you can clearly see the weld line starts at the first weld line in that picture. even in the second picture you can faintly make out the secnod weld line after the first weld line.

No, what i was saying is this: it's the weld between the angled front roof, and the roof. the front angled roof armour is thicker than the roof armour, since it's at a slight angle and can be hit from the front. this roof is usually designed to have the same LOS thickness as the front turret...

    looks close enough to me.

the weld line is where the front angled armour plates are welded to the flat roof. from other images you can see the the angle stops at the first weld, your so-called "composite armour" line, and not the second.

to me it doesn't look like the outer boxes are tool boxes at all, but extra armour of some sort. there's no hinged covers to access the insides. from the picture you took, they are either hinged, or bolted to the turret. its a bit hard to tell, apparently the module in the above picture is also...

side armour estimate. so side armour whould be about 60mm, which gives protection against russian 30mm, although perspective distortion of the bag makes this measure uncertain. side armour could be up to 80mm thick. this is not taking into account the stowage bins, which should consist of...

nice. but no pics of the interior with the pouch in place?

was trying to find the charts for the MB 838 that showed its torque curve, but they seem to have been taken off the internet.. anyways, i wrote down the peak torque of the MB-838 Ka-501 which is 5000nm@1500rpm MB-873 is 4700nm@1600rpm. 838 is 1 ton lighter than the 873, but 838 is wider by...

the gunners primary sight is not very well protected from the top, only a thin plate. and from the front it's still vulnerable, only now, instead of just the GMS being knocked out, the round might penetrate the front armour and kill people on the inside. americans solved this issue by putting...

the 1400hp engine is actually more powerful than the older 1500hp engine. it might have less HP, but it has higher torque giving it higher acceleration.

afaik, the issue wasn't firing the missile from the gun, it was guiding it towards the target. they had a lot of issues marrying the gunners primary sight with the guidance complex.

Re: Arjun MK-2 tanks facing Smokey driver chamber in latest tests well, a bore evacuator is a fume extractor installed on the gun barrel, that uses the pressure of the gun firing to vent the fumes out the front of the barrel instead of the gases escaping into the turret. shouldn't be a big...

Re: Arjun MK-2 tanks facing Smokey driver chamber in latest tests sounds like a faulty bore evacuator.
