I doubt that, plane has mtow of ~90 tons, 2-3 torpedos weighing 700 kgs total will hardly affect it. Also why Harpoons? Both p8i and SMART are optimised for ASW, with secondary role only for anti ship.

P8i can handle subs by itself. Mq9 + future Indian maritime drones with sonobuoy pods will be real beneficiearies. right now, if a drone detects a sub, we need to send p8i to kill the sub, instead here we can just fire the missile

I think SMART would be most useful in giving strike power to unmanned systems, which can get sonobuoys et cetera but dont usually carry torpedos.

Yeah, frontally speaking T90+ERA and Abrams are pretty comparable. And from my understanding of ERA, it should work well against most things, except maybe some super long projectile with shearing sacrificial tip.

1 AFAIK Abrams has much more protection than quoted, esp in turret - Hull is a known weak point, both upper and lower plates, atleast untill M1A2SepV3. IIRC frontally its around 900 mm, plus its side protection is mmuch higher than Russian tanks.

Take it as licencing fee. IMO, it will be anyway replaced in the medium term, and played an important part in developing our capabilities, so even the high licencing fee is worth paying.
