Is this new 7.62*51 mm rifle showcased by the Ichapore rifle factory, the latest iteration of the one shown in the Sandeep Unithan video of around 6 years ago, which was unveiled around 2017? This rifle was rejected by the Army over recoil issues. There was also a video of Gen Y.K. Joshi...

I hope SSS defence also comes out with a 7.62*51 mm version of their M-72 rifle which are AR patterned. Also, one thing is not clear. Is GOI shifting its requirement to equip the bulk of IA forces with 7.62*51 mm rifle deployment, from the 7.62*39 mm that AK-203 was going to do?

Why can't Nepal directly import CBC ammunition from Brazil, instead of giving SSSD their commission ?

Pakis use G3 as their main Infantry rifle and Type-56 in carbine role. I guess we planning something similar with Sig-716 and AK-203. But to take advantage of the longer range of Sig-716 we need long range optics on each rifle.

I don't know from where you got the 50% more weight figure of 7.62 NATO round compared with 7.62 AK round. The bulk production NATO round (M80) weighs 147 gr, while the AK round (M43) weighs 123 gr. Thus the M80 weighs just about 19.51% more compare to the M43. A 7.62×51 M80 cartridge has a...

In Vietnam, the US was operating the M-16 which had a 20 inch barrell, and was very prone to jamming. The Vietcong's AKs had a 16 inch barell, small geometric dimensions compared to M-16, less jamming. Thus it performed better in tight corners, as well as extended firefights. In IA's situation...

If frontline troops will have Sig-716, rear echelon troops will have AK-203, then who is meant to have 5.56*45mm carbine? Also, I feel the the whole Infantry should standardize 7.62*51 mm as primary assault rifle, given that we have already inducted Sig-716 and IWI Negev LMG at the section...

IMHO the Indian Army has no intention of inducting JVPC in any meaningful numbers, though it has made the OFB/ARDE run circles with JVPC for the last 17 years in the name of trials. The JVPC in its current avatar has evolved into a bulky weapon compared to other weapons in its PDW category...

Not OFB R-2 but the 7.62*51 mm rifle they showcased has similar muzzle break as Sig-716.

So finally, we do have another competition to Sig-716 from OFB apart from their earlier AR-2 rifle (which was based on Ghatak rifle). Waiting for SSSD to also M-72 or P-72 in 7.62*51 mm caliber. The new 7.62*51 mm rifle from OFB has the same muzzle brake which we find on Sig-716.

In the 1960s, Belgium did offer us to help establish production line, by sending engineers if we licensed the FN-FAL from them. However, OFB guys claimed that they can easily make the rifle using indegenous route, and Nehru went with the OFB option.

While it does not hurt to have a local copy of SCAR-H. But the question is do Astr defence have any manufacturing capabilities at all? How many can they make in a year. Their owner is a young graduate who made the first prototype in OFB Ishapore factory. At least SSS defence and PLR have some...
