Mid Air refuellers & MTA are available outside of the US with quality standards matching so that's ruled out while we've already procured or are procuring the rest.

The objective behind sourcing from the US is two fold - get cutting edge stuff from them unavailable worldwide which they're aware of & which in turn they'd expect payoffs for as well as the actual payoffs where the latter doesn't create critical dependencies .

As far as non military itens go , the US is still our largest trade partner & we're importing oil from them though it isn't economically feasible given the transportation costs involved.
No we are not importing oil from them. That's insane. We are importing oil from the Middle East and Russia but definitely not from US.

US never talks about this but Russia recently made a statement that almost 100% of their trade is dedoallarized. If/when other BRICS/countries follow this can have irrepairable damage.
And the sooner India do it, the better off India will be. India needs to dedollarized and deeurorize at the same time.

So for every cutting edge product we import from USA which isn't available outside US, we have to pay hafta to buy some trash. Its like if the deal is for Reapers-4B$+Strykers-1B$ stand at 5B$ in case, then Uncle Sam isn't even satisfied with extra 1B$ in hard cash without Strykers but include that so as to sabotage domestic industry of India.

Not exactly. Sabotage would mean no indigenous WhAP will be inducted AT ALL . I don't think that's happening. Indigenous quantities would be reduced though.

Look we really don't know the intricacies of the understanding between the 2 sides. What we can do is make educated guesses. However , what we do know is India's wary of CRITICAL DEPENDENCIES on any foreign country for vital supplies be it in defence of energy or any other strategic sector of which we've a good grip on the Russians coz we've been dealing with them since 6 decades. We both know what each other's red lines & capabilities are.

With the US it's like a dance with the devil . With France & Israel there are different strategies employed by us & by them for a working relationship. Both these parties are money minded. While that can be said about every supplier including the Russians it's more true of some countries than others.

What version of stryker are we talking bout if its the air defence shorad version i dont see any problem in importing it vshorad is yet to be inducted (dont know if its 1 year or 10 years /s) and the mounted version would also have to be developed and streamlined for our 'requirements' and then the user trials and all

so we are talking in 3-5 years in future which would be the time the whap based shorad would be developed
till then we could have stryker as a filler
whats more important is project zorawar imo which shouldnt be stretched in user trials

Dude, read what I’ve said, and then reply. I’m talking about the plate carrier and not the plate.
Even plate carrier needs R&D of new materials. Industry in India is mostly startups which rely on DRDO TOT rather than own capability. The industry is created just to bypass govt restrictions on firing, reservations, pensions etc and provide flexibility. But the industry is not mature to make anything on its own. If DRDO or govt asks the industry to make something, they will just import them, even if they are simple

Not exactly. Russia is using offshore accounts, middle eastern banks etc to trade in dollars and convert to other currency. However, there is still dollar link as middle eastern currencies like Dinar, Dirham etc are also pegged to dollar at fixed rate, making them indirect dollars (petrodollar)
And the sooner India do it, the better off India will be. India needs to dedollarized and deeurorize at the same time.
Impossible. India relies on foreign investment & remittance from gulf countries who have their currency pegged to USD. Indian service sector also relies on USD. So, no matter what, trade can't be dedollarised.

DRDOs advanced vest😂. What is so revolutionary about this vest? There are much better offerings from the likes of Armasen Tactical, SMPP and MKU with most of the modern requirements like a Quick-Release system, MOLLE both conventional and laser cut, etc.

The issue wasn't the quantity but the fact that we import from the US as I recall it.
This is like 3-5 shipload worth of oil and probably purchased at a one time discount on the exchange. It is hardly worth mentioning.

US crude accounted for 10 per cent of India’s imports in 2021 but slipped to as low as 4 per cent over the last two years as Russia expanded its market share, according to Sim.

According to resident expert here, share of indigenization of Brahmos couldn't exceed 51% as we'd be sharing our share of the profit with the Russian counterpart in the ratio of 51:49 which is exactly the ownership pattern of the JV, hence taking up the level of indigenization would only be to our loss as we'd still have to split the profits in the same ratio.

Yet somehow we've reached 76% & are striving for 100%.

I always knew the Russkies were shrewd businessmen. Look at how well they calculated how Ukraine would go.

Alhamdulillah!!

Yeah, i never understood the argument either. I dont see why increasing indigenisation would be an issue.

Lets say bramhos costs 10 million, out of which 3 million is profit and 7 mill is cost

If we do 50% work and russians 50% work, we will pay them 5 mill (half cost, half profit)
If we do 90% work, and russians 10% we will pay them 2.2 mill (10%cost, half profit)

We still save on money going out.
