...that doesn't mean the US is going to solve it. One has to stop being so universal in their approach that our own national interests are compromised. Evaluate it through India's prism and see how it affects India if one of our major oil providers is trampled by a foreign country. Can't imagine Indians to be so stupid as to be cheering someone who is trifling with our energy security.
Sure, the US would be kind enough to grant India an alternate source of oil, which will be Saudi Arabia, and we will end up in a situation where all our money is going to Wahabbis and we have no autonomy to diversify our oil purchase from anyone other than Unkil's favorite Wahabbi shithole. The same money will find its way back into India for religious conversions. A socialist shithole like Venezuela that isn't trying to preach socialism to us is better than a Wahabbi shithole that is actively propagating Wahabbism inside India. That's not how one becomes a superpower.
You need to learn to contextualize.
I never argued that US meddling in Venezuela would be good for us. It was merely a point about how blaming the US for all all Venezuela's ills and giving socialism a pass was just plain stupid. Socialism destroys every economy as it's inherently dumb and evil. As the former British PM, Thatcher said, 'The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.' Its evil because it demands the fruits of my labor and seeks to control it, to force me into something that I do not want to do.
As for India, we suffered under Nehru's and Indira's socialist policies that kept us underdeveloped for over half a century. I hope I don't have to recount examples of that painfully obvious fact.
Now coming to the energy situation, though that was not the context, since you raised it, its obviously better for us as a energy consumer to have independent sources; however, the reality is that US is actively pursuing the strategy of controlling all countries with significant oil reserves and in that regard they are pushing all major consumers to source from countries controlled by them. That is a reality that we need to face up with, simply wishing that Venezuela remain an independent socialist shit-hole will do nothing to change that reality. In the short-term we have to give in to the US as far as oil is concerned and in the long term, grow big enough to try to be independent in this regard.
As for oil money coming into India for conversions, that's handled better by forming and executing strict laws in the country rather than wishing geo-politics goes our way. In this regard, GoI under PM Modi has done little, Chattisharg is a prime example of a state that we'll lose to conversion, albeit to Christianity and not Islam. The principle of checking money flooding in remains the same.
So as I began, its not that I like US taking over Venezuela, its just that you can't absolve socialism.
