Do you know why China procured the Su-35 though ? They wanted to understand the technology behind Thrust Vector Control ( TVC ) for application in the J-20 & reverse engineer it along with the AL- 41 Turbo Fans .

That's how the J-20 was adapted for TVC & the initial lot of J-20 were powered by the AL-41 & later by the WS-10C TFs before transitioning to the WS-15 with TVC.
