Also in May 2022, the Brazilian company XMobots, the main drone manufacturer in Latin America, and the European company MBDA, the largest missile company in Europe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on the proof of concept for the integration of the missile ENFORCER, from the European company, on the Nauru 1000C drone, from the Brazilian company.
The Nauru 1000C is the Category 2 Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, already selected by the Brazilian Army for ISTAR, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance missions. It weighs approximately 150kg.
The ENFORCER missile is a new generation light guided weapons system, weighing around 7kg and providing the capability to defeat a wide range of light and lightly armored targets, including fast-moving vehicles and shielded targets. It is typically fired from the shoulder of an infantryman or special operator.
MBDA is a company jointly owned by the French Airbus, the British BAE Systems and the Italian Leonardo, and currently supplies the Brazilian Navy with missiles that equip the Marine Corps, such as the Mistral short-range anti-aircraft missiles, in addition to to also supply missiles to the Navy Corps, which equip the current Brazilian Niterói-class frigates, such as the Exocet anti-ship missiles, and also has a contract to supply the modern Sea Ceptor medium-altitude anti-aircraft missiles, to equip the future Tamandaré-class frigates. .
MBDA is also proud to have offered the Meteor long-range air-to-air missile to the Brazilian Air Force to equip Gripens fighters, and expects to supply the Enforcer missiles to the Brazilian Army, through integration with the Brazilian Nauru 1000C drone.
The collaboration between MBDA and XMobots was so successful that, during the MBDA Innovation Awards 2023, in Paris, the Brazilian company, represented by its CEO, Giovani Amianti, received the award for Best External Cooperation from MBDA.
And this week, Xmobots released a video showing the stage of integration between the Nauru 1000C drone and the Enforcer missile. According to the Brazilian engineer responsible for the integration, the Nauru 1000C drone has a range of 100km and can fly for ten uninterrupted hours, and very recently, the first test flight of a Nauru 1000C drone was carried out carrying two mockups of the Enforcer missile, with the same dimensions and weight.
According to the information, the initial test flight was a success, where it was mainly analyzed whether or not there was any unwanted effect of the weight of the missiles on the aircraft's flight stability, and the results left the engineers at Xmobots and MBDA excited for the next phase, which includes the implementation of other systems for identifying targets, and finally, the shooting test will be carried out.
